TOPIC: ENGAGE THE SPIRIT
TEXT: Gal 5:16-18
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
LESSONS
Living a carnal life is automatic if we don’t engage the Spirit. The default setting of a natural man is contrary to that of the Spirit. We must be deliberate to engage the Spirit and walk in his ways. The text above says, we should be connected to the Spirit then we shall not walk in the flesh. It is not enough to possess the Holy Ghost but to allow him to take hold of us and in turn possess us. This means we should be under total control of the Spirit.
Whatever we sow is what we will reap. If we sow obedience to the Spirit, we shall reap eternal life and vice versa. A believer who doesn’t permit the leading of the Spirit is likened to a vehicle that is in neutral position, though on, such would be static with no progress whatsoever. Only an engaged vehicle can witness any progress in life. Only a beliver that works by the dictates of the Spirit witness real spiritual progress
- Be conscious of the Holy Spirit that is in you (1 Cor 3:16)
- Listen to the dictates of the Spirit per time (Roman 8:14)
- Make a fixed choice to seek and walk in the will of the Spirit always ( Gal 6:16)
4.Be expectant of the great reward that lies in walking in the Spirit more than the pain of denying the flesh ( 2 Cor 4:17)
5.Be careful of where you receive counsel. Most times when the will of the flesh collides with that of the Spirit,we seek for counsel.Such counsel have great power in determining our action no matter how convinced we are about the will of God. Seek counsel from godly sources only.
6.Walk in faith. It is faith in the will of God that brings the expected result. Satan is a robber (John 10:10). Even if a man is walking in the Spirit but not doing so in faith, he will be robbed of the expected reward by the devil. So be persuaded, be persistent, be dogged about the promised outcome (2 Cor 4:13)
